Fair Queen

2004 – Austin Indiana – Paige Lowery Barrett with daughter Samantha on Halloween night. Paige was an All-American swimmer at Pfeiffer College in North Carolina and is married to Austin Baseball Coach Jeff Barrett. Her grandfather Emmett Lowery, was an All-American basketball player at Purdue and a teammate of basketball icon John Wooden. Emmett was the head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers basketball tam from 1948-1959. – Photo by Mike Barrett

2004 – Austin Indiana – joe Shields – 1948 Austin High School Graduate – in this photo, Joe is holding the game ball from his No-Hitter against the University of Louisville when he pitched for Hanover College in 1950. joe also threw the first recorded No-Hitter in the history of Austin High School baseball. – An interesting piece about the ball is that in the early 1950s Joe got Baseball Hall of Fame Pitcher Satchel Paige to sign the ball when Paige came to Austin with the world-famous Harlem Globe Trotters Basketball Team. Paige was performing with the Globetrotters.

2010 – Austin Indiana – Austin School Alumni Banquet – Mrs. Melinda Deaton retire from teaching in 1978 pictured with Superintendent Barely Goodin. In the 1940s through the 1960’s Mrs. Deaton and her husband Verdie, operated a supply store in downtown Austin, “Verdie’s Store”

2002 – Austin’s first high school baseball team to win a sectional – Coach Ben Watts – Team posed for the picture in front of Carl Rose’s house on Main Street with Carl at far right in the photo.

2008 – Austin High School Baseball Coach Jeff Barrett (left) with son and Assistant Coach Shawn Barrett after the Eagles 2008 Sectional Championship. Both were star players for the Eagles during their high school days (Jeff 1981 and Shawn 2002)

2002 – Ben Watts was first Austin High School Baseball Coach to win Sectional in 2002.
