PROPOSED AMENDMENT OF SEWER USE REGULATIONS, WASTEWATER CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS, AND SEWER FEES
Notice is hereby given that the Common Council of the City of Austin, Indiana, will conduct a public hearing on October 13, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., at Austin City Hall, Austin, Indiana, concerning a proposed ordinance entitled: “AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND RESTATING CHAPTER 51 OF THE AUSTIN CODE OF ORDINANCES; ADOPTING REVISED WASTEWATER CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS AND WASTEWATER STANDARD DRAWINGS; REVISING SEWER CAPACITY AND INSPECTION FEES; AND PROVIDING FOR RELATED MATTERS.”
The proposed ordinance would amend and restate Chapter 51 of the Austin Code of Ordinances governing the City’s sanitary sewer and wastewater system and would adopt revised Wastewater Construction Standards and Wastewater Standard Drawings. Among other matters, the proposed ordinance would establish a sewer capacity fee of One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) per Equivalent Dwelling Unit (“EDU”), with one EDU equal to 310 gallons per day, and a separate sewer tap inspection fee of One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) for users connecting to the City’s sewage works.
The proposed ordinance and related Wastewater Construction Standards and Wastewater Standard Drawings are available for inspection at the office of the Austin Clerk-Treasurer during regular business hours.
At the public hearing, the Common Council will receive and consider comments from interested persons concerning the proposed ordinance, wastewater regulations, standards, and fees. Interested persons will be given an opportunity to be heard. Following the public hearing, the Common Council may consider the proposed ordinance for adoption, amendment, or other appropriate action.
